Session 3, 2017 Video Recap

Session 3 the halfway point of Summer 2017! All we have seen here at Windells this summer has been bluebird days accompanied by slushy park laps. This session Devin Logan, Torin Yater-Wallace and Bobby Brown from the US Freeski Team put their rigorous training programs on hold to Takeover camp. Well, after watching them demolish our park it was definitely not a week off training. Torin melted minds all week charging the park as if it were is final day on snow for the next decade. Devin Logan aka D-LO spent the week dialing in her Switch Right 7’s on the Medium Jump Line. Bobby took command of our Big Jump stomping a Triple Cork 1440 Mute the third day of camp, “It’s nothing for these Big Dogs” said Digger Foster Meeks after hearing the news.Speaking of Meeks, he’s back! Fresh off the sidelines from a sprained ankle during Session 1.

McRae Williams caught word of Bobby’s Triple and came through a few days before his Session 4 Takeover, reminding us that sleepy Double Corks are still cool. Fifteen year old Swedish Swag Queen Jennie-Lee Burmansson made the journey across the pond to shred the lane with the Windells Academy Students. After watching Jennie effortlessly toss textbook Cork 7’s and Switch 5’s, she reassured everyone the future of Women’s Freeskiing is in good hands. Hunter Hess came out swinging this session, lacing up clips on the jumps, rail and in the Superpipe at true renaissance man.

Session 2, 2017 Video Recap

This session we soaked up the rays with legends Tom Wallisch aka The Pretzel Man, Karl Fostvedt aka Crazy Karl and Dale Talkington aka The Worm. Crazy Karl got right to work lapping The Wave, airing and slashing as if he were surfing in Tahiti. Tom “The Pretzel Man” Wallisch and Dale “The Worm” Talkington were keen about our Superpipe everyday after lunch. “It is an Olympic Year, ya know!?” hollered Dale to Tom after boosting a Cork 9 Blunt for Instagram.

Alex Hall came through for a day with our buddies from SLVSH to pump out his Instabanger. AHall made jaws drop all day as he casually riffled through YOUR trick requests. Nick Morales aka Sanch: Digger, Young Buck, Underground King and Zoot.Space Curator showed us he could run with the big dogs this session, stomping his first Dub 10. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Sanch topping off the podium at AFP World Tour Events. Rumor has it amongst the diggers, Forster Meeks will be stepping to his first Dub 10 later on this summer. Ethan Swadburg held down LDOH (Last Day On Hill) yet again, greasing a 270 Pretzel 270 on the C to Down Rail. Last run of the day none the less, glad you got your birthday wish Swadburg. Peep the photo and video recap below for more action from Session 2!

Session 1, 2017 Video Recap

Session 1 just wrapped up, it was one for the books! This session Magnus GranerPeyben, and LSM from The Bunch showed out, taking over camp. As soon we pulled up for FDOH (First Day on Hill) and our laid eyes on the masterpiece of a park our digger squad had crafted, smiles were poppin out.

The diggers crafted something special; allowing everyone to embrace the “new wave” of slashin, and swevin, while still appreciating the “old wave” of tossing K-FED’s and blasting cork 7’s off jumps. LSM and Magnus did not waste a second getting down to business, immediately lapping the medium jump line. “These jumps are perf for learning” said LSM after doing some solo shredding, locking down Switch Right Cork 10 and Switch Right Cork 9 Japan. After 2 days of getting the jump legs back; Magnus played a SLVSH game against….sorry you gonna have to wait till that game drops.

Eric Rosenwald Teams Up with Windells Camp and High Cascade Snowboard Camp – Play Host to Olympic Teams from Around the Globe.

MT.HOOD, OREGON – We Are Camp, parent company of Windells and High Cascade Snowboard Camp, today announced an exciting new partnership with one of the world’s most respected halfpipe and terrain park builders, Eric Rosenwald of MNTN-DVSN. Known for his laser-precision work, Rosenwald will collaborate with Chris Hargrave, VP Programming, and Head Digger, Corey McDonald, to lead all aspects of the design and maintenance of High Cascade and Windells’ terrain parks this June, July, and August.

Over the past 25 years Rosenwald has been a key builder of Snowboarder Magazine’s Superpark over a dozen times, worked on event and photoshoot builds throughout North America, and has been an advocate for terrain park best practices as a member of the ASTM International and National Ski Area Association freestyle terrain working groups. “Over the years, whether it is lapping the public parks at June Mountain, Boreal, the superpipe at Park City or marshaling Superpark, I am constantly in awe of what Eric Rosenwald is capable of creating with a stack of snow and a snow cat. As someone who spends more than two weeks a summer at High Cascade I can’t wait to strap in and enjoy everything that Eric will be producing this summer,” stated Pat Bridges, Editor in Chief of Snowboarder Magazine.

With the 2018 Winter Olympics nearing, both High Cascade and Windells Camps  will play host to Olympic teams from around the globe, and have partnered with Rosenwald in their dedication to providing a quality on-hill product. Coaches have placed that confidence in Rosenwald, “He is a perfectionist.  I’ve never seen somebody so focused and dedicated to making sure the pipes are parks are spot on,” said U.S. Ski and Snowboarding Head Coach Mike Jankowski.  “Eric is an obsessive artist and the rest of us get to benefit.”

While Rosenwald and McDonald are privileged to create and maintain parks for the world’s best snow athletes, the camps are geared primarily towards people just starting out or who simply want to ride for fun.  For this, they worked with Hargrave to design what they call the “Perfect Balance,” a coaching, park, and progressions philosophy that provides the perfect balance between learning new skills, applying them, and having fun. Hargrave adds, “As a coach I’m always looking for the perfect spot to teach; from a first air up to the incredibly challenging maneuvers of today’s competitive field, it should go without saying that terrain features can make the difference.  We aim to give our campers, athletes, and coaches exactly what they need to breakthrough and exceed their goals in our parks!”
